UK Pastry Team

Congratulations to the UK Pastry Team for winning and retaining the European Pastry Cup.

With just 3 months preparation time, Team UK battled 5 other nations for 5 hours at SIRHA in Geneva to scoop the European Pastry Cup. This outstanding win takes them through to the illustrious Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie in January 2015.

The team consists of Martin Chiffers (Team Coach and President), Barry Johnson (Rococo Chocolates) and Nicolas Belorgey (Le Cordon Bleu).

They were tasked with creating two fruit desserts, nine identical desserts and a sugar and chocolate sculpture. Themed on The Lion King, the team produced their fruit desert based on the Lyceum Theatre where the musical is being performed. The plated desert is a visual image of The Circle of Life, the chocolate sculpture is of Simba, The Lion King and the sugar sculpture is a colourful depiction of Zazu. Take a look at their magnificent creations!

The Chocolate Sculpture

Simba- meaning "lion" in Swahili, is the title character of The Lion King, he becomes King of Pride Rock a large rock platform that is analogous to a royal throne. On this platform, the lion king stands while the animals of his kingdom pay homage to him.

The Sugar Sculpture

Zazu - is a red-billed hornbill who acts as major-domo to and Simba, a puppet controlled by an actor dressed in blue striped clothes and a bowler hat, much like a stereotypical butler.

The team produced a spectacular performance despite a technical hitch with their chocolate machine to take the win with 1351 points over 2nd place Denmark with 1230.
