In order to help you quickly and easily identify the right products for your needs, wherever possible we have ‘tagged’ them with one or more of the icons below. Each icon indicates a particular property or attribute of the product and these classifications correspond to the search filters on our website.

Please remember that this information is given for guidance only and you should always refer to the manufacturer’s product specification to obtain full and accurate details on the product. All product specifications are available through the Keylink website.

Dark Chocolate

Our description “Chocolate” or “Dark Chocolate” refers to a chocolate containing not less than 35 per cent total dry cocoa solids, including not less than 18 per cent cocoa butter and not less than 14 per cent of dry non-fat cocoa solids.

Our description “Milk Chocolate” refers to a chocolate containing not less than 25 per cent total dry cocoa solids, not less than 14 per cent dry milk solids, not less than 2.5 per cent dry non–fat cocoa solids, not less than 3.5 per cent milk fat and not less than 25 per cent total fat (cocoa butter and milk fat)

Dark Chocolate Couverture

Our description “Dark Chocolate Couverture” refers to a chocolate containing not less than 35 per cent total dry cocoa solids, including not less than 31 per cent cocoa butter and not less than 2.5 per cent of dry non-fat cocoa solids.

Our description “Milk Chocolate Couverture” refers to a milk chocolate containing a minimum total fat (cocoa butter and milk fat) content of 31 per cent.

Dairy Free

Dairy free refers to products which don’t contain any milk products, such as milk proteins or lactose. We only classify items as dairy free if the ingredients do not contain any dairy products and there is no risk of cross-contamination.


gluten-free-icon

Gluten Free

This indicates that the product does not contain gluten, and there is no risk of cross-contamination. Gluten is most commonly found in grains such as wheat, barley and rye.


nut-free-icon

This indicates products that do not contain tree nuts or peanuts, and have no risk of cross-contamination. Tree nuts include, but are not limited to, almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, chestnuts, filberts/hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, shea nuts and walnuts. Peanuts are actually legumes.

Bakestable

This classification describes products that can withstand the heat of an oven without being degraded. So bakestable chocolate chips will not lose their shape or taste qualities when baked into a chocolate chip cookie.


vegetarian-icon

Vegetarian

This indicates that the product does not contain meat or animal tissue products. However, milk, cheese and eggs are permissible in vegetarian foods under the most common definition of them..


vegan-icon

Vegan

This indicates that the product contains no animal products or products obtained from animals, including meat, fish, dairy, eggs and honey. Please note that this classification does not take into account any potential risk of cross-contamination.


kosherD-icon

Kosher Dairy

Being Kosher indicates that a food is certified as fit for consumption according to orthodox Jewish law. Kosher Dairy certification applies to all foods derived from or containing milk.


kosherP-icon

Kosher Pareve

Being Kosher indicates that a food is certified as fit for consumption according to orthodox Jewish law. Kosher Pareve certification applies to foods that are neither meat nor dairy. Common pareve foods include fruit, vegetables and of course, chocolate.

Halal Certified

A Halal certified product means that the product is permissible or acceptable in accordance with Islamic law.


Boxes and bags

Food Safe

This indicates that the packaging is made from materials intended to come into contact with food, but which may not be suitable for direct contact with chocolate. You should therefore choose bags, inserts, dividers or glassine cases to use with this packaging.

Direct Contact

This indicates that the packaging is made from food-safe materials and is also suitable for direct contact with chocolate.

Recycled

This indicates that the product is wholly or partially made from pulp that has been obtained from recycled material – normally cardboard packaging or papers that have been used already but have been recovered to be recycled.

Recyclable

This icon indicates that the packaging is technically capable of being recycled. Note that new, emerging definitions for recyclable plastics will further stipulate that the recycling process must be commercially viable and that there must be an end-use for the recycled raw material.


compostable-icon

Compostable

This indicates that a product is capable of disintegrating into natural elements in a compost environment, leaving no toxicity in the soil. This typically must occur in about 90 days.


biodegradeable-icon

Biodegradable

This indicates a product that is capable of being decomposed by bacteria or other living organisms within a reasonably short timeframe (typically a year or less), thereby avoiding pollution. It is of course important that it is disposed of correctly, e.g. not in landfill where the conditions for breaking down are typically not met.


plastic-free-icon

Plastic Free

This indicates that the product does not contain any plastic. Note that in accordance with industry convention, glues, labels and inks are not taken into account as they typically account for less than 1% of the total mass of the material.
