The Keylink Junior Chocolatier of the Year competition is targeted at full-time students in their final year of an NVQ or VRQ level 3 course.
There is no specific age limit but we do wish to restrict the competition to genuine students, rather than experienced people taking time out from work to do a course.
The 2011 Competition has candidates from the following colleges:
Westminster Kingsway College
University College Birmingham
Sheffield College

Eran Shina
I am extremely passionate about cooking, especially baking. My ultimate career goal is to become a Pastry Chef. I grasp new concepts quickly and pay close attention to detail. I am a good team player, dependable, hardworking, flexible, strong and organized and I have excellent communication skills. I can keep calm and stay focused on the job during service when the kitchen becomes extremely hot and fast-paced in order to meet deadlines.
Ellie Hopkins
I am a hard working student that attends Westminster Kingsway College studying the Professional Chefs’ Diploma, City and Guilds full time. I am a good communicator and I can accept any challenge. I am well motivated and willing to come up with new ideas that may help a company. When asked, I can put my mind to any challenge and will always see a job through to the end. I set myself personal goals to motivate myself whilst working.
Megan Lewis
I am Megan Lewis. I came to UCB in 2008 on a VRQ Chef Diploma course. I found interest in pastry and I am now looking forward to becoming a Pastry chef. In 2010 I went on a Leonardo exchange to Marseilles, France for three weeks. I worked in a small restaurant called “question de gout" and, whilst there, I had a chance to experience French cuisine and get a further look into the patisserie aspect. I am now currently studying to finish my VRQ level 3 chef diploma.
Alex Wootton
After leaving school in 2008, I started at UCB on the professional Cookery course. I am in my final year and plan to continue onto a Cam course. During my second year I took part in several functions that began my interest in pastry and the desserts section of the kitchen. Hopefully I will be able to continue to work in the pastry section later on in my career.
Both of these two students have shown a keen interest in Chocolate work since being chosen to compete, and have been diligent in putting forth the time and effort in practice in the short time that they have worked with chocolate.
Jasmin York
My name is Jasmin York and I am 19 years old. From the age of 16 I left school with a passion to take up a career as a chef and applied for a place at Sheffield City College on the full time VRQ level 1 and 2 diploma in catering. After successfully completing these courses, I then applied for NVQ Professional Chefs Diploma level 3 in patisserie which I realised became my true passion. I recently became runner up in a competition organised by The Master Chefs of Great Britain “Young Pastry Chef of the Year”. My aspirations for the future are to travel and work in high class patisserie establishments.

Rebecca Wright
My name is Rebecca Wright and I am 21 years of age. After leaving school I immediately started a hairdressing apprenticeship and continued to work in the industry for a further 5 years. Since a young age I have had a passion for food and in early 2010 I decided to pursue this further and subsequently started a level 3 patisserie course at Sheffield College. Whilst on the course I have developed extensive skills and have recently been offered a place on a hospitality course at Sheffield Hallam University.
