ACTICOA
Against the backdrop of a growing awareness of health and wellbeing issues, ACTICOA™ chocolate is the first chocolate ever produced that has been scientifically proven to be good for you in so many ways! Now you can create your own products based on ACTICOA™ chocolate, such as pure chocolate, flavoured or inclusion bars, or even pralines.
ACTICOA™ is a special process developed by Barry Callebaut to preserve a maximum of cocoa flavanol components in the cocoa bean. ACTICOA™ products contain important amounts of cocoa flavanols, the most powerful antioxidants naturally present in cocoa beans. It has been scientifically proven that these cocoa flavanols keep us young and fit!

- Contains antioxidants / rich in antioxidants
- Contains flavanols
- Contains more flavanols than standard chocolate on the market
- Strengthens your natural defences against oxidative stress

Legal Requirements when Making an Allowable Claim:
- A nutritional information table must be provided incorporating the “big 8” (energy value plus the amounts of protein, carbohydrate, sugars, fat, saturates, fibre and sodium)
- the amount of flavanols per 100g must be stated in the same field of view as the nutritional information table
- the condition of use must be stated: 6 grams of ACTICOA™ dark chocolate per day cover 100% of the suggested daily intake of antioxidants necessary to protect our health from the inside. 16 grams of ACTICOA™ milk chocolate per day cover 100% of the suggested daily intake of antioxidants necessary to protect our health from the inside.
- there must be a sentence emphasizing the importance of a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle
Where a product is a compound product, such as a praline or an inclusion bar or is flavoured, it is very important to take the composition of the final product and the daily portion into account when making these claims.
Licensing ACTICOA™
If you are interested in making and selling an ACTICOA™ product, then you must get your product licensed. This applies whether you are:
- A manufacturer wishing to make and sell an ACTICOA™ product, or
- A retailer wishing to repack and sell an ACTICOA™ product (such as shiny callets)

Licensing Procedure & Requirements
To get your product licensed, there are a number of rules that you must adhere to regarding the composition, production and labelling of your product. The complete licensing process is handled by Keylink Ltd on behalf of Barry Callebaut.
- All ACTICOA™ customers must sign the license agreement to ensure that the ACTICOA™ chocolate and trademark are used correctly [see Downloads below]. The signed license agreement should be faxed or posted to Keylink.
- Customers cannot use the ACTICOA™ logo for or in connection with any products where ACTICOA™ chocolate has been mixed with any other chocolates.
- Prior to producing the ACTICOA™ product, all machinery used in the production of the ACTICOA™ product must be thoroughly cleaned down to prevent any contamination by residual amounts of another chocolate. Note that if ACTICOA™ chocolate is used to clean down any machinery, then this chocolate can only be used as standard chocolate for non- ACTICOA™ certified products
- The ACTICOA™ product packaging and the representation of the font must conform to specific guidelines [see Downloads below]. A pdf version of your proposed packaging should be emailed to patrick@keylink.org for approval.
